We recently had the pleasure of visiting Margaritaville at Lanier Islands, and I must say it was a delightful experience! We’re giving the resort an overall rating of four stars.
From the moment we arrived, we felt a sense of tranquility and relaxation. The atmosphere is perfectly crafted for those seeking to unwind and escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, ensuring our stay was as comfortable as possible.
The most memorable part of our trip was undoubtedly the stunning views from the resort. The breathtaking scenery of Lake Lanier truly enhanced our experience.
The amenities were also impressive, with a variety of activities available for guests of all ages. From water sports to relaxing on the private beach while sipping margaritas or hanging at your campsite and grabbing a drink from the mobile drink cart that comes around (it’s always five o’clock somewhere). It definitely aligns with other Margaritaville properties.
One thing to note is that you need to have a vehicle or rent a golf cart to get around the property. It’s very large, and the activities are quite far from the campsites.
Below are our overall ratings for the 9 categories that we measure:
1. Location: ★★★★☆
While Lanier Islands is easy to access, the available amenities are somewhat limited once you’re on the island. When you leave the island, there isn’t much to do without driving a considerable distance. However, the resort compensates for this by offering a wide range of activities, including various dining options.

2. Site Quality: ★★★★★
The next category is site quality. We had a beautiful site with an excellent view of Lake Lanier. Throughout the resort, all of the RV sites provided good views of the lake. Pricing varies based on the type of lot you choose; ours was a waterfront property, which came at a slightly higher cost, but other non-waterfront sites also offered decent views. One important lesson we learned is that it’s better to be on higher ground rather than lower ground. During our stay, we experienced a rainstorm, and the lower areas did flood, while our location on higher ground remained unaffected by water damage.
3. Amenities: ★★★★☆
We rate the resort five stars for its extensive amenities. It offers various water sports with multiple boat ramps and wet slips up to 40 feet. The resort features Fins Up Water Park and Landshark Landing, where you can enjoy food, drinks, and live music in a beach-like setting. Additional facilities include laundry, restrooms, showers, propane refills, shuffleboard, golf cart rentals, and a stunning golf course with lake views. A drink cart circulates daily, and in winter, Chill Island offers winter sports. During our visit, a boat show was underway, with plenty of jet skiing and boating. Fins Up Water Park and Landshark Landing are open to the public, making summer months likely very busy.
4. Cleanliness: ★★★★☆
For the category of cleanliness, we’re giving it four stars. Everything was very clean, including the amenities in the bathroom and laundry room. The showers were also well-maintained, but they felt a bit dated, which prevented us from giving a full five stars.
5. Staff & Service: ★★★★★
For the category of staff and service, we’re giving it five stars. The staff we interacted with during our stay were incredibly accommodating and helpful. Whenever we passed by staff members, they would greet us with a friendly "good morning" or wave hello, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
6. Wi-Fi/Connectivity: ★★★★☆
For the category of Wi-Fi and connectivity, we’re giving it four stars. This rating is partly because we opted not to use the resort's Wi-Fi; instead, we used our own, which worked well. However, the resort does offer Wi-Fi connectivity. One thing to note is that since you are in the mountains, the speeds may be slightly slower, but we didn’t experience any issues during our stay.
7. Value For Money: ★★★★☆
For the category of value for money, we think the pricing is fair and are giving it four stars. The rates for RV sites range from $105 to $188 per night. They also offer other accommodations, such as RV rentals, which cost around $268 per night, as well as cabins and tents with varying prices. Considering the amenities provided, we believe the pricing for the RV sites is fair.
8. Pet Friendly Environment: ★★★☆☆
For pet-friendliness, we’re rating it three stars. As owners of three dogs, pets play a crucial role in our travel ratings and accommodations. Unlike most Margaritaville resorts, this location does permit dogs, but it lacks certain amenities that other resorts we've visited provide for pets, like a bath station or a dedicated dog park. While Margaritaville resorts usually feature a pet-friendly park, this one does not. Besides allowing dogs on the premises, there isn't much to do with your pet other than taking them for walks.
9. Luxury: ★★☆☆☆
For the category of luxury, we’re giving it two stars. While the resort offers beautiful views, it lacks the luxury amenities that we typically look for in resorts. There’s nothing wrong with that; it simply doesn’t meet the criteria we have experienced at other luxury resorts.
In conclusion, if you’re looking for a low-key, relaxing getaway, Margaritaville at Lanier Islands is an excellent choice. We would definitely return to this location in the future!
